Black or Blue?

One of my sons asked me that question from the back seat of the car once while we were on a long drive.
Of course my response was...
"Black or blue what?"
He said "Just black or blue... which one is best?"
I told him that I couldn't possibly tell him which color was best without knowing what he was talking about.
He got frustrated and said "never mind." I'm not sure if I ever did find out what he was talking about.
I am often asked questions about traffic generation that remind me of that day. People ask which traffic generation method works best. I always answer with a question... "For what?"
Every business model is different. Could Google have become successful using article marketing and search engine optimization? Can you just imagine Sergey saying "If we can just get #1 on Yahoo for the keyword 'search', we'll have it made."
Some business models lend themselves very well to public relations and a promotional approach. Other business models require telemarketing, billboards, direct mail or radio advertising. If you look at the ten most successful businesses in the world, you are likely to find that each of them receive new prospects differently.
There is no magic formula that works best for generating traffic or prospects. There is only a best method of generating prospects for YOUR business model.
If someone asked you whether a plane, boat, car or walking was the best mode of transportation... what would your answer be?
It all depends on where you are and where you are going. If you are walking to the corner newspaper stand, then talking an airplane probably won't work very well. But if you are going from Zurich to New York, then taking an airplane has a lot of advantages over walking.
